Penniless and homeless, Raynor and Moth Winn found fame with The Salt Path: the story of their 630-mile walk to salvation. It became a global bestseller and was adapted into a major film.
But we can reveal it wasn’t the whole truth.

It is with great sadness that I have just read your announcement of Tony’s death. I worked/volunteered with him at the RAF club library for several years. He was such a friendly and interesting gentleman and he was always so helpful to me. Please pass on my condolences to his family. I would be very grateful if you could let me know when the arrangements are made to say our goodbyes. Jacky Atkinson
Hi Jacky Thank you for your kind words. I am hoping that you have received details of the arrangements. Please let me know if they did not get to you. Regards Deborah Blackman
Very sad news about Tony. He worked with my father at Avro’s in the 1950’s and I visited him in London a few times over the last few years at his apartment and at the RAF club. The emails I exchanged with him were always interesting and he was always positive. My condolences to his family. If you have details of his funeral, can you send them to me please.
Only just read about the loss of Tony. I met him a couple of times at Newark and I have three of his books all signed. He was a very interesting man to chat with and I will treasure and remember those meetings. RIP sir!!
