Tony at launch (Sean Strange)

Tony Blackman

Tony Blackman OBE Ma FRAeS
6th April 1928 – 13th August 2024

Today it is with great sadness that we announce the death of Tony Blackman. He was a much-loved and respected author as well as a key figure in the V-Force community. Tony’s affiliation with the V-Force began when he was Avro’s chief test pilot; in that role he tested over 100 iconic Vulcan aircraft. An extraordinary man.
As his publisher, we are proud to have published eight of Tony’s books and our thoughts are with his children, Debbie and John, and wider family at this time.

It is with great sadness that I have just read your announcement of Tony’s death. I worked/volunteered with him at the RAF club library for several years. He was such a friendly and interesting gentleman and he was always so helpful to me. Please pass on my condolences to his family. I would be very grateful if you could let me know when the arrangements are made to say our goodbyes. Jacky Atkinson

Very sad news about Tony. He worked with my father at Avro’s in the 1950’s and I visited him in London a few times over the last few years at his apartment and at the RAF club. The emails I exchanged with him were always interesting and he was always positive. My condolences to his family. If you have details of his funeral, can you send them to me please.

Only just read about the loss of Tony. I met him a couple of times at Newark and I have three of his books all signed. He was a very interesting man to chat with and I will treasure and remember those meetings. RIP sir!!
